(2008-Present) IHRC employees support CDC’s mission as epidemiologists, laboratorians, bioinformaticians, statisticians, mathematical modelers, data analysts, data managers, database administrators, program managers, administrative staff, and in many other roles. Our employees are integral to several important CDC programs, including but not limited to, foodborne, waterborne, and vector-borne disease surveillance, parasitic diseases and malaria, bioterrorism preparedness, and chronic disease programs, such as heart disease and stroke prevention. In addition, our employees perform research, support global surveillance and outbreak response activities, provide consultation for the implementation of bioinformatics and other programs, and provide bioinformatics analysis and bioinformatics workforce development training.

(2007-2009) IHRC’s Bala Swaminathan provided Management Consultation, and scientific subject matter expertise to assist the WHO in the establishment of Global LabMap, a global directory of laboratory resources to assist with the investigation of emerging disease threats of international concern (e.g., SARS, pandemic influenza, and cholera).
(2008-2010) This project leveraged IHRC’s extensive domain expertise to provide assistance on publications related to food safety. IHRC’s Bala Swaminathan provided Management Consulting services in the areas of Science and Strategic planning to determine where to focus microbiologic diagnosis activities.
(2012-2013) IHRC supported complex statistical analysis activities of the Bureau, such as the Current Population Survey (CPS) and Current Employment Survey (CES).
(2007-2010) IHRC’s Bala Swaminathan provided Management Consulting and Scientific subject matter expertise to the ILSI Food Microbiology Committee.
(2007-2008) IHRC provided Management Consultation and Scientific subject matter expertise on laboratory aspects of food safety, and organized workshops on food safety and prevention of food-borne disease outbreaks for the food industry. MEI Press selected IHRC to help them establish a peer-reviewed on-line food safety journal.
(2015-present) IHRC’s Applied Bioinformatics Laboratory (ABiL) is providing bioinformatics consulting and analytical support for Symbiota (Cambridge, MA), a private company involved in pioneering work on naturally improving plant health and growth by promoting a healthy microbiome.
(2015-2016) IHRC provided technical research support to The Research and Development Division (RDD) of the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in the areas of spatiotemporal and computational statistics, survey and small area estimation, and data analysis and modeling.
(2017-Present) IHRC is providing scientific support to the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) for the development of methods for the detection and isolaiton of enteric pathogens from various food matrices.
